At Carlisle and Carlisle we provide independent expert services and dispute resolution for projects or work involving “ground engineering” and “construction below ground level”.

Key word identifiers are; Foundations, Piles & Piling, Barrettes, Secant Walls, Diaphragm Walls, Sheet Piled Walls, Retaining Walls, Mini Piles, Anchors, Soil Nails, Grouting, Jet Grouting, Ground Improvement, Vibro Replacement, Vibro Compaction. All of these are processes that provide support for buildings and infrastructure works.

A considerable proportion of our work involves the provision of Independent Expert Witness Opinion and Reports. 

We are not bound by any industry specific relationships / memberships / conflicts and therefore are able to advise both Claimants and Respondents who are either Employers or Contractors. We work to the “Nolan” principles and CPR Part 35.

We are also involved in pre-action advice, forensic studies, DABs, arbitration, adjudication and insurance claims.

Our work in this area first started in 2007 and was brought under the Carlisle and Carlisle umbrella in 2018. We have assisted on disputes ranging from £10,000 to £1bn by providing reports ranging from one page to 1,500 pages. We have been subjected to cross examination in hearings about our work and opinions.

We have provided and continue to provide informal advice and direct support to owners, employers, contractors, manufacturers and specialists. 

We provide critical support for crystallised disputes and progression through a dispute process. We are able to bridge the engineering and legal professions, often bringing a different and helpful perspective to organisations facing the difficulty of a new challenge. 

We employ forensic techniques to drill down on project data to reveal the factual issues and merits of specialist engineering matters. A key revelation from nearly all our work to-date is that the ‘issues’ that are reported to us during initial briefings with clients, are not the same issues that eventually have to be addressed to resolve a dispute. A simple example of this being a delayed project where the employer was convinced a contractor had used the wrong machinery while a detailed analysis evidenced it was the site team not using the machinery properly.

Carlisle and Carlisle has links to a network of independent arbitrators and consultants who are all experts in their own field. This includes the Carlisle and Carlisle owner Angus Carlisle, who is a foundation construction expert and an international commercial arbitrator (FCIArb).
